Severe diarrhea following a course of clindamycin

A 58 year old developed severe diarrhea following a course of clindamycin. He was treated with metronidazole but he developed cardiac arrest and passed away the next day.
An autopsy was performed and a revealed a grey inflammatory membrane covering the mucosa of the bowel.
