A 2yr old child presented with presented with large, bulky, greasy stools and failure to thrive. The mother described that the child was completely normal till about 6 months of age. The weaning diet consisted of cereals and oats. Following this the child developed abnormal stools associated with a failure to thrive.
An intestinal biopsy was performed. This revealed marked atrophy of the intestinal villi. The child is noted to be anemic.
A blood picture is likely to reveal
a) macrocytosis
b) microcytosis
c) Burr cells
d) immature macrophages
e) target cells
