A 60yr old farmer presented with non-specific symptoms of chronic cough and progressive dyspnea for the last 6yrs. On further examination the patient was diagnosed to have an interstitial pneumonitis.The chest x-ray revealed reticulonodular infiltrate associated with honey-combing of the lung.
Pulmonary function studies showed a restrictive pattern with loss of lung volumes, impaired diffusion capacity, decreased compliance, and an exercise-induced hypoxemia
This farmer's symptoms are most likely secondary to the following environmantal hazard
a) the farmer's cheese processing plant
b) the presence of spores of Bacillus anthracis in the farmer's barn
