A 6 year old boy is brought to the pediatrician by his mother.She complains that he has been having 'funny dizzy turns' but has never had a fit or loss of consciousness. On taking a history and on examination, there was no abnormality detected. The physician decides to perform a CT scan of the brain. In the report there was a remark about 'numerous calcifications around the lateral ventricle'. These periventricular calcifications in a child are most likely to be due to
